Synopsis:
From the director of DIFF hit Tuvalu (1999), comes the story of Iskander, who dreams of being an astronaut and lives in a small village in the rural Kazakh steppes, where residents collect the space debris that falls down around them from the nearby Baikonur Space Station. When he comes across a capsule containing Julie Mahé, an unconscious space tourist, Iskander takes her home to restore her health. But when Julie awakes, she has lost her memory, and Iskander convinces her that she is his bride. Partially shot in the actual Baikonur Space Station, Baikonur is a masterfully directed exploration of love, identity and the dreams we all have for the future.
