Synopsis:
In this drama from American Pie and Little Fockers director Paul Weitz, young writer Nick Flynn (Paul Dano) works in an inner city homeless shelter when Jonathan Flynn (Robert De Niro), the father he has not seen for many years, stops by looking for a place to sleep.
Since Jonathan walked out on Nick and his mother Jody (Julianne Moore) 18 years earlier, she has passed away leaving Nick to pretty much fend for himself.
For his part, since abandoning his wife and child, Jonathan, who considers himself a great writer, has barely scraped through life, spending time in prison and losing every job after a time due to his drinking problems and extreme eccentricities.
But now, as father and son experience contact for the first time in nearly two decades something in each of them makes them reach out to the other in an attempt to recapture the father/son experience that they missed out on.
